CHRISTMAS SUGAR COOKIES

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

Sugar Cookies is a cookie that I have been baking since I was about 12 years old. Every Christmas, my mom would leave the cookie baking up to me and I would always bake Chocolate Chip Cookies and the Sugar Cookies. Over the years the recipes I used did not change, but I did tweak them a little by adding a hint of Lemon Extract.

I love this Sugar Cookie recipe because you can prepare these cookies three different ways, you can do Drop Cookies, Cut Out Cookies, or you can roll the dough in a log and do Slice and Bake Cookies, which ever way you decide to prepare these Cookies, they come out Amazing. These cookies are light, buttery, crispy, and chewy all at the same time, like I said amazing.

You can also use candy sprinkles, icing, or just leave them plain, it is your choice how you want to prepare these luscious cookies, but either way I am sure you are going to love this recipe. Also, even though I have this recipe down as a holiday recipe, you can fix these cookies anytime of the year. Sometimes when I get a taste for something sweet, I whip up a batch of these cookies and my sweet tooth is satisfied. So, give this recipe a try, it only takes about 10 minutes to mix them up and like I said you can do drop cookies and refrigerate the rest of the dough for later use. The recipe and video are below, please leave a comment letting me know how your cookies turned out.

CHRISTMAS SUGAR COOKIES

INGREDIENTS

3 Cups of All-Purpose Flour

4 Tablespoons of Buttermilk

1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda

1/2 Teaspoon of Baking Powder

1/4 Teaspoon of Salt

2 Sticks of Butter (Softened)

1 1/2 Cups of Sugar

1 Egg

1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

1/2 Teaspoon of Lemon Extract

Colored Sugar or Sprinkles for Decorating

DIRECTIONS

PREHEAT OVEN TO 375F DEGREES

In large bowl, cream together, Sugar, Butter, Egg, Vanilla Extract, Lemon Extract, blending until combined. In separate bowl or shifter, add Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, and Salt. If using bowl mix together to combine or use a shifter.

Start adding dry ingredients to wet ingredients blending well. Then add the 4 tablespoons of Buttermilk, it will not make the dough wet, it will only moisten the dough. After that is blended, you can add colored sprinkles, using your hands, blend in sprinkles and form dough into a ball. Using a small scoop or spoon, scoop up dough and form each piece into a ball.

Place on lightly greased cookie sheet, using a small glass, flatten each dough ball and then decorate with the colored sugar. Bake in a 375F Degree over for 8-10 minutes until lightly brown around the edges. Enjoy!

This recipe can also be rolled out for Cut Out Cookies or roll dough into a log and refrigerate for later and then just Slice and Bake them.
